Does one always have to apply counter-enamel to a piece of work?
This depends on the thickness and the area of the metal, and the thickness of the enamel at the front.
A thin layer of enamel gives rise to less tension, so that counter-enamel may not be that necesssary; however, if it makes no difference to the appearance of the work it is always safest to apply counter-enamel.
