The green color is copper oxide dissolved by the white enamel. The copper oxide at the interface must be dissolved to obtain good adherence. With other opaque colors the effect of the dissolved copper oxide is less obvious, however if equal thin layers are applied to both copper and silver the difference in color will be easily seen.
