Greenish discoloration on copper?

How do I prevent white enamel from displaying greenish discoloration on copper?
The green color is copper oxide dissolved by the white enamel. The copper oxide at the interface must be dissolved to obtain good adherence. With other opaque colors the effect of the dissolved copper oxide is less obvious, however if equal thin layers are applied to both copper and silver the difference in color will be easily seen. You will find a little heavier application will produce a good white. Hence there are two solutions:
  1. Apply two thin coats of white.
  2. Apply one thicker coat of white, with a preference for the two coats.
